Favorite Tools, Apps, Books, and Events of 2019
I’m in a reflective mood this time of year, and this early morning is no different. I’ve been thinking about some of my favorite things of 2019 in business and in life and I wanted to share them with you this morning.
Just like Oprah’s favorite things list, here’s mine for 2019. I broke it down into categories that I use most often...books, apps, investments, and events.

Favorite Books
12 Rules for Life by Dr. Jordan Peterson
One of my favorite new “mentors” that came into my life this past year. An incredible author, with a powerful message. I’ve listened to 12 Rules for Life no less than three times this past year, and each time I do, I am impacted deeply.
The Perfect Week Formula & The Perfect Day Formula by Craig Ballantyne
The Perfect Week Formula is Craig’s newest book and being a coaching client of his I was able to be a beta reader and offer some feedback. If you’re looking for more systems and time management in your life, both of these books will help immensely.
Confessions of a Persuasion HItman by Ian Stanley
My favorite marketing book in 2019 from a pro copywriter and stand-up comedian. This book is a short read, but impactful. Lots of practical advice and tools not just for copywriters but for anyone who needs to be effective and persuasive...that’s everyone.
Talking to Strangers By Malcom Gladwell
Not necessarily a business book although I found myself rethinking my sales approach because of this book’s lessons. An incredible collection of stories and lessons that only Malcolm Gladwell can tell.
The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday
Stoicism for the 21st century. What stands in the way becomes the way. We are all going to experience hurdles, roadblocks, naysayers, and setbacks...and the answer to all of these problems is actually the problems. This really changed my mindset on how to deal with challenges and using them as opportunities.
The Art of Living by Epictetus
2,000+-year-old lessons that are still as applicable today as ever before. This is my 5th year re-reading this book and every time I do, I gain a little more clarity on my life’s aim. An incredible short read, please buy and read this book.

Favorite Business Investment under $100
I have two. First is a Moleskin Pro Notebook. It’s a delight.
The second is “other people.” Yes, I think other people is the greatest app anyone ever developed. This past year I decided that instead of me trying to do all the things and learn countless new skills that take me twice as long to develop and only a fourth as effective, I’m going to hire other people to do these things.
Whether it was someone mowing my yard, moving my furniture during our home move, or creating a list of podcasts and podcast host emails that I can reach-out too, this was more of a mindset to overcome than anything. I encourage you to think of the tasks that are not your job and outsource if you can so you can focus on the skills that only you can provide.

Favorite Event of 2019
The Perfect Life Retreat in November. Live events change lives, and I totally believe that after attending (alone) my first personal/professional development event. It’s not just the impact, but it’s exposure to what’s possible.

Evernote for my second brain and memory.
Dropbox for file management.
Fiverr for finding freelancers and people I can outsource work too.
Audible for audiobooks.
Hubspot for a CRM
